    Sodium Hydroxide? or Potassium Hydroxide?

What's the difference and which is better? How do you know how much to use? Is there a formula for water volume and plate area to determine the amount?

the concentration of KOH or NaOH solution mainly depends on the placement of ur plates...

if the spacing between each plates is very small, then u need less KOH concentration.

formula to calculate ur concentration (%w/v); dH2O = distilled water

    5g KOH + 100ml (dH2O) = 5 / 100 x 100% = 5%w/v KOH solution

    10g KOH + 100ml (dH2O) = 10 / 100 x 100% = 10%w/v KOH solution
