    beginners question

in the most basic form, what is required to produce hydrogen from water? simply electricity moving through water from + to -?

In the most basic thought, yes, you are correct.

if electricity moving through a bare copper wire and then inserted into water good enough? or does electricitiy have to leave an anode and travel through water and arrive at a cathode?

As the electricity travels from the anode to the cathode it will have to travel through water molecules. It is this transverse that effectively breaks apart the molecule.

However, there is the ability to use a toroidal coil of wire to create HHO. This is essentially a piece of copper wire coiled around a donut shaped ferrite bead. Each end of the copper wire is applied to the opposite poles of the battery, with the coil sitting in the electrolyte. This method is not nearly as efficient as using plates though.

Back in the days when people thought you could find the resonant frequency of water, the coil was the choice du-jour. Today the best method for creating HHO is to build a dry cell.

So with a plate based dry cell, the electricity will leave one plate (anode) and travel through the water to the close plate beside (cathode) it and HHO gas will bubble off as a result. Is this it in simple terms?

This is the same principle as lightning through air. A packet of electrical charge descends from the cloud stripping electrons off atoms as it goes to the cathode (the earth). Correct?

hey ken I am not sure of your age but didnt you do the experiment in science where you take a fish tank or large glass container with 2 test tubes one on each end. One made oxegen the other made hydrogen. You would then test to make sure by inserting a match in the inverted test tube. The one with pure oxegen would put out the match while the other would ignite. It was on such a small scale where with hho conversion we are just doing this on a extreamly larger scale.

electricity is one way. i have found it good to suplament fossil fuel. but don't forget thermolysis (separating water atoms using high heat. 1500c+) and some chemical ways also. i have high hopes for thermolysis and wish more people would exparement with it.
