gasket + temperature

Hi,
I'm tring to build a drycell and don't know what materials to use for gasket. Any ideeas of what to use? (don't want to buy premade gasket from internet).

Also I'm going to apply 2.5V on the cell, is this going to heat it up so much? or I'm in the correct tollerance?

A good gasket material is EPDM, rubbermann7 handles it on ebay.
