I found a site where some one designed a simple and accuate 1mv to 1 amp shunt that plugs into your dvm. Put your meter to read DC mv and for every 1 milli volt on yoyr meter LCD equals 1 amp dc. I built on and compared it to a shunt I bought on ebay It was a 75mv per amp shunt the home made one was accuate. I also checked it aginst a hoyte 0-50 amp meter and again the home made one was accuarte. I built it for 7$ reads up to 50 amp can be scaled up for 100amps or scaled down. I t is made from a 12.1" long piece of #10 solid core wire as a resister. Awesome!!!!. Its also a very good write on how shunts are used to measure current.!!!!! Once you make the shunt you can use it to measure current up to 100amps with a simple harbor freigt dvm that is capable of reading dc millivolt.
