No, Unless you want to spend the extra money for Nickel 200 plates then Stainless 316L is far and away the best choice. Forget all the other metals. They will just not work.

Since some of the actual resistance in the neutral plates is due to the not so great conductivity of the stainless steel plates, would it make sense to make the neutral plates quite a bit thinner, like shim stock, instead of making them the same as the connected plates. The end plates still need to be thicker though as these are the source of the power for the cell stack, so lack of resistance is differently interpreted/calculated as the power is conducting along it, not so much through it like the neutral plates. This would possibly make the whole thing a little cheaper, and lighter, and a little bit smaller for the amount of gas produced. Has anyone tried this?
