View Full Version : Bob Boyce 101 Plate Cell Question

Having a look at the plans, the cell requires the use of a 12VDC to 110VAC inverter.

Would anyone happen to know a good one to use?

Do a search on grainger .com for inverters. They have dozens. Be sure to pick one that can handle your current load.

Ok, I found one that's suitable for my current load:

How would I go about adapting the AC side of the adaptor for it to fit into the PWM3G circuit, as it only looks like the inverter onkly allows AC devices to be connected by a mains plug.

I am not familiar with a PWM3G circuit. But, assuming that it requires AC voltage to run it, you will need to wire in a male wall plug forit to plug into the inverter.

For those who have read the Bob Boyce plans:

On page 28, under the heading 'Connecting the Electrics' there is this diagram:

After reading the whole guide at least 10 times, I still don't understand something:

On the diagram, it shows a diode bridge and an electronics board as 2 separate units in the circuit. But in the guide itself, it only has the PWM3G circuit and no other boards at all. And in the guide, it only talks about wiring a 13.8V DC power supply to the PWM3G, not a 110V AC inverter as indicated in the diagram.

So are the 'electronics board' and the 'diode bridge' the same board? (The PWM3G) If yes, do you need more than one PWM3G in the circuit, and how would you wire them up in respect to the AC inverter and the toriod?

This is something that's been bugging me for a while now :(

I made a simple 115 ac to 110 dc inverter, with a diode bridge, but was a waste of time.

Well from my experience - it did not work for me, mine was 54 plates and then down to 40 plates and got such little out put, even after 35 minutes of running i still could see the plates through the electrolyte.

and both sets were run at 25 amps ant 106 vdc.

I could not get any more amps without tripping the breaker.

I dont know if more amps were needed but i could not get anymore out of house hold breakers.

What amps did the boyce cell run at??

well, considering that the 'optimum' voltage for HHO production is 1.24VDC, and any other excess voltage is going on heat generation, it does seem highly unlikely....

What??? Am I reading that right? The electrolyzer has 9A in and 230V across it, yet the breaker on the battery is only rated for 20A?

That doesn't add up even remotely. I must have read that wrong... Anyone?

i miust have read BB101.pdf and D9.pdf at least 20 times and that's what I can find out
