I've just bought this at Walmart and intend to make a gen like the mindstrain.com guy has, with a few differences.

This container seems quite good as far as not being easily melted, nor to stiff or ridged as to crack when I try drilling through it.

It says on it "absolutely airtight...liquid tight...microwave reheatable...freezer and dishwasher safe" So I think it should be ok for my purposes, at least better then any other rubbermaid/tupperware type containers.

I also got a container that going to be using for a bubbler, its in the same line and is tall and cylindrical.

Now just I just have to figure out what size plates im going to get made and how many i can squeeze in there. How close do you typically want the plates to come to the side of the container? I'm guessing you want to leave a 1 inch perimeter or so...

if i can do it without having heat issues, im going to try and mount 5 plates on 2 bolts coming through the one side of the box and then do another 5 plates on 2 different bolts coming through the other side of the box, and wire them so that its as if they are completely unrelated and in separate containers, without them actually being so. Is this a bad idea and is it going to cause insane heat in there since the container is only 7 Litres/7.4 Qt and 10 plates approx 4X6 inches big?

This is going to be in the trunk or passenger foot well for the time being, i just want to experiment with this stuff and get it down before i even think of putting stuff under the hood.

The lock and lock is what I use.

any pics of your gen? id LOVE to see how you edited this type of container to work, also interested in how the materials stand up to high heat.

Slimk, I was in Walmart yesterday looking for an air tight container similar to yours but didn't see any so I went to a resterarunt supply store and found one that seemed the perfect size. I came home and filled it about half full of water, turned it upside down and it leaked a very little bit, The lid snaps on so I don't think it would leak 5 psi, it should go to the engine before that.
I was also following the Mainstrain guy and built mine exactly like his + - + but was dissapointed that it didn't make hardly any bubbles only a little foam for a while, then I decided to add a little vinigar, it helped a very little but still no bubbles but I did get some brown scum.
Maybe I just missed something that he done but 3/4 liter without any electrolyte seems pretty amazing.
Please keep us posted on what you come up with, its just a learning curve for all of us.

Thanks and have a Blessed day,
Wade

Without having one to play with and squeeze, I wonder how it would hold up to 30" of vacuum...

midnight you said "Maybe I just missed something that he done but 3/4 liter without any electrolyte seems pretty amazing."

from what i recall the mindstrain guy DID use electrolyte, he used table salt, in his pdf book he shows how much he used, etc. check it out

in regards to the lock and lock containers rigidity, it is a lot more rigid then rubbermaid stuff, but a bit less then polycarbonate of course. if you want the most rigid type from a lock and lock then try a cylindrical one, not those big box types.
