View Full Version : HHO won't work on my Camry?

Hi All

I talk to my auto guy today and he told me the old Camry(97) got a small alternator only runs 10A@2000RPM. He said if you put the HHO system on the car and using 18A to produce the HHO. I actually drain the battery or runs high amps on the alternator.

Any idea? I know the alternator not suppose running on full power.

I can't beleave that a car can run on 10A...

8. INSPECT CHARGING CIRCUIT WITHOUT LOAD
HINT:
If a battery/generator tester is available, connect the tester to
the charging circuit as per manufacturer’s instructions.
(a) If a tester is not available, connect a voltmeter and amme-
ter to the charging circuit as follows:
(1) Disconnect the wire from terminal B of the genera-
tor, and connect it to the negative (–) tester probe
of the ammeter.
(2) Connect the positive (+) tester probe of the amme-
ter to terminal B of the generator.
(3) Connect the positive (+) tester probe of the voltme-
ter to terminal B of the generator.
(4) Ground the negative (–) tester probe of the voltme-
ter.
(b) Check the charging circuit as follows:
With the engine running from idling to 2,000 rpm, check
the reading on the ammeter and voltmeter.
Standard amperage: 10 A or less
Standard voltage: 13.5 – 15.1 V
If the voltmeter reading is more than standard voltage, replace
the voltage regulator.



9. INSPECT CHARGING CIRCUIT WITH LOAD
(a) With the engine running at 2,000 rpm, turn on the high
beam headlights and place the heater blower switch at
”HI”.
(b) Check the reading on the ammeter.
Standard amperage: 30 A or more



With Load the alternator will provide 30A, but I think that's very closed to the max. So I will think my HHO should only use 10A instead of 20A since 20A+(noload)10A=30A is really close to the limit for the alternator.

OK. Final here.

Back to home and massure the amp by clamp meter. For my 97 Toyota Camry, Org alternator (yes. 12 yrs old)

no load about 20~22A. I know it's diff than the manual... properly baz it's old... 12 yrs baby...
turn on high beam and a/c about 32~34A. Fan is low...
turn on HHO with 9A. jump up to over 40A, about 42 43A.
turn off high beam and a/c, leave HHO on @9A, 31~33A.


Based on that info. If I drove on the road with no ac/heat and no high beam. I am OK to use HHO with 9A~10A load. Whenever I turn those acc on. It will give a lot of pressure to my alternator.

Final: I have to take off the HHO system on my car. Maybe I will try those things on some big vehicle, SUV/VAN/Truck.

I have a 98 Mitsubishi Mirage and I can run a booster @ 30 amps with the A/C on. I bought the car used five years ago and have the same alternator that came with the car when purchased. I recently replaced the battery but thought that when I bought the car the battery wouldn't last a month (go figure). Anyway, I only have 1.5 L engine and suspect the alternator is standard. Can't see why it wouldn't work on a Toyota. Perhaps Mitsubishi makes better cars?

Why not take your alternator out and have it rebuilt to handle your system, or by an alternator with higher capacity?

I have an 80amp in my Bronco II to handle a winch, air compressor and boomer stereo and HHO generator.

An alternator swap in a Camry would be a snap. I own a 94..........

From everything I've read, if your running more the 10amps to run your booster, your just wasting gas and creating heat.
