Bubbles?

everyone wants to get the bubbles off their plates so that there is room to make more bubbles. but are the bubbles made on the plates or are they made in between them. and if they are made in between then why would it matter it the bubbles are on the plates. would the bubbles not create more surface area on the plates? just something that poped in my head.

The bubbles are formed when the H and O ions touch the plates and thusly lose their electrical charge. Once the ions become uncharged, they combine to form O2 and H2 gas bubbles. The bubbles then displace the electrolyte away from the plates, effectively blocking the surface area, until they release from the plates and float to the surface.

so the ions actually have to be touching the plate to seperate? if not i would think that the energy flow would just travel across the surface of the bubble.
