Just wanted to share a link with everyone that I stumbled over yesterday, once you get past the first bit which goes on about the government and fuel companies there are some interesting ideas about increasing fuel economy (some familiar, some not) which should, at least, provoke some thought and discussion.

I was especially interested in the section on 'Cam Timing' and would be interested on input about this from the auto mechanics / engineers.

The link is:

Good read. Here's more proof that the timming needs adjusting on our engines to get better fuel mileage.

I found the parts about valve timing very interesting too.

That's interesting, I wonder if applying a resistor in parallel with the map sensor wire will have the same effect to retard timing.

I'm guessing that to alter the valve timing would require moving the cams or even replacing them.

its a bit heavy on the conspiracy theory in the beginning. I most liked the solar refrigerator. I had a propane fired refrigerator and always thought we could do the same thing using solar heat.

Cam timing is nothing new, but since the invention of VVT and VVL, I think its a null point.

just my opinion.

I think it would just require a tooth change with the timeing chain. I wouldn't go the full 10 degs. and I'm not sure which way to go anyway.

The whole conspiracy thing was a little much. IDK if just retarded timing could give you 70% as they claimed, but then again, I thought HHO was B.S. 7 months ago...

How do I adjust timing on my truck. I know how to do it on a chevy but it is not the same on my nissan.

That engine has a vvt solenoid and actuator, so the computer is going to have control of your timing.
