Air intake or no Air intake?

Ok, I am off for like 9 days and finally going to install my smack booster in a canister. But, before I do, I am asking those that are running generators,

Adjustable air hole or no?

Any info from successful generators with out and with would be greatly appreciated.

I do not have one on either gen. I also did not hook them to engine vacuum.
